Dorothy M. “Bunny” Zausch, age 89, of Port Washington, WI, formerly of Grafton and Saukville; passed away peacefully with her family at her side Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Horizon’s Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon due to complications after a recent stroke.

She was born on August 14, 1929 in Port Washington; daughter of Fred and Theresa Meyer Hoppe. Growing up on the family farm, Dorothy attended St. Mary’s parochial school and graduated from Port Washington High School.

On September 11, 1954, Dorothy married Robert Zausch of Port Washington at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington. For many years they raised their family on East Sauk Road in the town of Grafton. In the past few years, Dorothy downsized to a condo in Saukville.

A lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish, Dorothy was active with the Christian Mothers Women’s Society and their many activities throughout the years, as well as an active volunteer for funeral fellowships. She had also volunteered at local polling stations during many elections.

A proud homemaker with great cooking and sewing skills, Dorothy was a teller at Associated Bank and clerked at the former Plush Pony store. Dorothy enjoyed the outdoors, birds, flowers and picking strawberries with family. She appreciated a good book and bowled for many years. Dorothy enjoyed being out with family and wouldn’t pass up a Brandy Old Fashioned. She was her children’s and grandchildren’s proudest cheerleader. School, music, 4-H or sports, Grandma Z was present with her radiant smile.

Dorothy is survived by her children Diane (Rick) Reinthaler of Port Washington, Tom (Tina) Zausch of Grafton, Peggy Zausch of Port Washington and John (Janet) Zausch of the town of Saukville, 5 grandchildren Christopher Zausch (Karen Martindale), Angela (Rich) Horner, Josh (Melissa) Zausch, Jason Zausch (Allison Siemens) and Jared Zausch, one great-grandchild on the way and 2 step-great grandchildren Cole and Nadia Horner. She is further survived by her sisters Betty Ann (the late Harold) Last and Ethelyn “Tudy” (the late Alfred) Schumacher, both of Port Washington, sisters-in-law Barb (Stan) Janeshek and Marge (Rick) Bichler, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Her husband Bob preceded her in death on December 29, 2008 and an infant daughter Donna Mae.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 6PM Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at St. John XXIII Parish-St. Mary’s Church, 451 N. Johnson Street, Port Washington, WI. Reverend Patrick Wendt will be the celebrant. Family will receive relatives and friends from 4-5:45PM Tuesday AT CHURCH prior to the Mass. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Washington.
