David W. Garay, 75, of Saukville, WI passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon, WI surrounded by his family.
He was born in Somerville, New Jersey on January 9, 1945. David served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1968 where he met his future wife Darlene Garay (Weber). They were married for 44 years.
David was a mainframe computer programmer and retired from Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (ADM) in Milwaukee, WI.
Aside from work, David was a member of Portview Church in Port Washington, WI and could be found serving his church. He enjoyed spending time with family, as well as, hunting and fishing.
Later in life he spent his time watching his grandchildren in their many sports and events as well as continuing to stay active in church and volunteering for Stars and Stripes Honor Flights. He also enjoyed several “once in a lifetime” vacations with his wife and family.
He was a member of the Landt-Thiel American Legion Post 470 in Saukville and with his wife were very active.
He is survived by his wife Darlene of Saukville, WI and children Melissa (Randy) Walters of Menomonee Falls, WI, Heidi (Adam) Schuldt of Slinger, WI, his brother Donald (Marian) Garay of New Jersey, his sister-in-law Janice (Dennis) Koch of Wisconsin, his nine half brothers and sisters outside of the Wisconsin area, grandchildren (Brittany and Jordan Walters and Eva, Lily and Eli Schuldt) and his nieces and nephews and many friends.
A celebration of life with military honors is will be held 1 pm, Friday, May 14, 2021 at Portview Church, 3457 County Road LL, Port Washington with a reception to follow. Visitation will be held AFTER the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stars & Stripes Honor Flight, Milwaukee or Landt-Thiel American Legion Post 470 Saukville or Portview Church, Port Washington, WI.
Dave was an amazing example and mentor. His heart for serving God and others shined everywhere he went. I will always remember him as a man of prayer. My deepest sympathies to Darlene and the entire Garay family.
Dave was a long time friend. He enjoyed all the Men’s Ministries if our church, Men’s Breakfast, Silent Retreats, and other Mens Retreats. He was a man of God and a mentor to a lot of people. I will see you Dave up in Heaven some day.
My sincere and deepest sympathies to you Darling and to the entire Garay family. Dave and I shared struggles and triumphs together even in passing moments we checked on each other. He will be missed.
Dave will be missed, he was such a Blessing to me. Alway giving me such wonderful advise and always asked me how was I doing, it was nice to be asked “How are you doing” by Dave & he loved on my twins since they were little peanuts. He would offer to hold them and I knew he loved on them, I know this is not a goodbye but a see you later my dear Brother in Christ.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family. He will be greatly missed. He was full of wisdom and truth. Such a great long time friend to us. We will cherish the memories with him. He is heaven’s gain.
