James H. Schuknecht, “Jim”, age 80, of Port Washington, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Sunday, November 20, 2022 at the Harbor Club in Port Washington where he had lived the past few years.
He was born in Port Washington on May 26, 1942 to Howard and Ann Kartanas Schuknecht. Jim graduated from Port Washington High School, class of 1960 and attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. He received his teaching degree from the Sheboygan County Teachers College in Sheboygan Falls.
Jim taught elementary grades in Adell and Random Lake. He became a substitute teacher in the Port Washington-Saukville school district. He left teaching and worked in the Smith Bros. fish smokehouse and the warehouse for St. Vincent DePaul in Port Washington. Jim was a proud caregiver for his aging parents and longtime volunteer at the Harbor Club, long before he was a resident.
Jim enjoyed old movies, puzzles and painting by numbers projects. An avid sports fan, Jim enjoyed social golf, softball and his favorite sports teams. He had a very strong faith and was a devoted Catholic, taking comfort in daily Mass and the rosary. Jim had been a member of the Catholic Knights for over 60 years.
He is survived by his brothers Robert “Bob” (Mary) Schuknecht and Rick (Dawn) Schuknecht, both of Port Washington, his nieces and nephew Vicki Smith, Jon (Sarah) and Carmen Schuknecht, his great-nieces and nephew Nate Smith and Caitlyn and Zoey Schuknecht, his aunt Mary (the late Joe) Federspiel, other relatives and friends.
A heartfelt “thank you” to the staff of the Harbor Club and his dear friends Ned, Jima, Molly and John for their kindness and care, amongst many others.
