Joseph P. Ott, 87, formerly of Highway A, town of Belgium died Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Harbor Club, Port Washington where he had been a resident the past three years.
He was born on July 27, 1921, son of Joseph J. and Susan Ries Ott. On November 6, 1943 he married Alice I. Karrels of the Town of Port Washington at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake Church. They raised their family on the farm, working together over 60 years. She preceded him in death on November 15, 2007.
He was a man of the land. He enjoyed fishing on inland lakes and rivers. His fishing travels took him throughout the country. He was a hard-working farmer and will be remembered for his time spent cutting and splitting wood. He was a long-time member of the Random Lake Co-Op and the Catholic Knights. He had been very active over the years with his church, spending many years on the parish council, an usher for over 25 years and Holy Cross Cemetery sexton. He appreciated family and friends, especially while sharing a game of sheepshead.
He is survived by his children Dennis (Tina) Ott of Fredonia, Carol (Dick) Schatzer of Antigo, the late Charles (Vicky) Ott of Port Washington and Joe (Clare) Ott of the Town of Belgium; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, his sisters Rita (the late Bernard) Buser of Saukville and Janet (Lester) Bares of Merrill, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
His Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7PM Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Holy Rosary Parish-Holy Cross Chapel in Holy Cross. The Reverend James Ernster will be the celebrant. Family will receive friends from 4-7PM Tuesday AT CHURCH. Interment will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 200 S.
