Mary A. Meyer, age 80, of Port Washington, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side on Monday, January 24, 2022.
The daughter of Eugene M. and Lorena Schueller Mayer; Mary was born on October 20, 1941 in Sheboygan, WI. At the age of 12, Mary and her family moved to Fredonia after her mother passed away. She had worked at the former Allen Edmonds Shoe factory in Lake Church, WI and later provided child care for many children of family and friends.
On June 3, 1978, Mary married Eugene N. “Gene” Meyer of Port Washington at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Fredonia. Together they raised their family in Port Washington with the birth of their children Katie and Alan.
Mary and her husband Gene had always been active with St. Mary’s Parish in Port Washington as the children grew. They had coordinated the parish Swiss Steak/Ham Fall Dinner for many years. Mary had served with the Christian Women of the parish, helping to coordinate the annual Christmas Auction, and volunteered as the funeral fellowship coordinator and many bake sales throughout the years. She was an excellent cook and baker, known for her Poppy Seed Torte, amongst many others. Gene and Mary organized the St. Mary’s parish fish fries for years in support of Port Catholic School where both of their children graduated middle school.
Mary enjoyed many friendships through her card clubs and at the Port Washington Senior Center. She will be remembered for her snowmen collection. She led a life of family, faith and friendship, sharing God’s gifts with others. Mary always had a smile, and treated everyone with love and respect.
Survived by her husband Gene, daughter Katie (David) Sumner of Port Washington and son Alan “Al” (Melissa) Meyer of Howards Grove, grandchildren Blake and Lilly Meyer and Chandler and Elliott Sumner, Gene’s yorkie Charlie, her brother Eugene (Marilyn) Mayer of Fredonia, sisters-in-law Loretta, Carol and Mary Ann Meyer, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her infant brothers Dennis and Joseph Mayer, her brother James Mayer and brothers-in-law Joseph, Ted, George and his wife Martha, Leonard and Gilbert Meyer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12Noon Saturday, February 5, 2022 at St. John XXIII Parish-St. Mary’s Church, 551 N. Johnson Street, Port Washington. Reverend Patrick Wendt will be the celebrant. A 9AM rosary will be said AT CHURCH on Saturday with visitation to follow until time of Mass at Noon. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Washington following the Mass. A luncheon/fellowship will follow at St. John XXIII Parish-St. Peter’s Church site.
