Joyce J. Heinen, 77, formerly of North Montgomery Street, Port Washington, WI died peacefully Friday, November 27, 2015 at Milan Estates in Saukville where she had resided the past few years.

She was born on August 17, 1938 in Port Washington, daughter of Felix and Agnes Even Heinen. Joyce graduated from Port Washington High School in 1956. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee in 1960. For two years, Joyce taught in California. She returned to Wisconsin and joined the School Sisters of Notre Dame Catholic order of nuns in Mequon in 1963. During her time with the School Sisters, Sister Mary Evan, as she was named, taught in Michigan. She left the Order in 1969.

Joyce later began teaching Math at Port Washington High School. During the summers, she worked on her master’s degree in Computer Science from Drake University. She later left Port High to join Wisconsin Bell/AT&T, working with their computer systems. Joyce retired in 1998.

In her spare time, Joyce enjoyed reading. Entertaining family and friends with a steak on the grill, blackened chicken or a birthday celebration were quite common when she lived on Montgomery Street. She and Ann Celeen took many trips, both local and abroad.

She is survived by her sisters Gladys (John) DeMerit and Carol Heinen, both of Port Washington and Mary (Carlos) Tarazona of Manitowoc; her nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her dear friend Ann Celeen Dohms.

A memorial mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30pm Saturday, December 5, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 430 N. Johnson Street, Port Washington. Reverend Thomas Lijewski will be the celebrant. Visitation will take place from 11:30am-1:30pm Saturday AT CHURCH with a rosary 11:30 am Saturday. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Washington.
