Therese M. Demler, age 94, of Port Washington, Wisconsin peacefully passed away Friday, September 1, 2023 at the Hamilton House in Cedarburg on what would have been her 72nd anniversary with her husband Joe.

Born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1928 in Lake Church, town of Belgium, WI, she was the daughter of Peter and Rose Kramer Schmit.  After high school Therese did secretarial work at the former Port Washington Chair Factory.  On September 1, 1951, she married Joseph G. Demler of Fredonia at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake Church.

Together they built their new home on Douglas Street in Port and raised their family.

Therese enjoyed baking and took great pride in her home and tending her flowers in her garden. She will be remembered for her kind smile.  Over the years she had been active with St. Peter’s Parish and the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 Auxiliary.  With her husband Joe, she proudly supported him and the Stars and Stripes Honor Flights.

She is survived by her children Tom (Mary) Demler of West Bend, Steve (Jill Gaskell) Demler of Blanchardville and Catherine Demler of Port Washington, grandchildren Cora (Peter) Whitmore, Harlan (Lisa Cathelyn) and Kevin Demler, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Therese is preceded in death by her husband Joe, her sister Marie Schmit, her brothers Eugene Schmit and his wife Pauline, Clifford Schmit and his wives Pat and Marion and Wilfred Schmit and his wife Helen, her sister-in-law Madeline Holland and her husband Jack.

A Mass will be celebrated at 6PM Friday, September 8, 2023 at St. John XXIII – St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin Street, Port Washington, Wisconsin.  Reverend Patrick Wendt will be the celebrant.  Visitation will take place from 4-5:45PM Friday AT CHURCH prior to Mass.  Entombment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Washington.
