Avis E. Buenger, 97, of Crestview Drive in Port Washington died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Washington.
She was born February 21, 1914 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the only child of Henry R. and Clara Albrecht Stroede. On January 6, 1937 she married Adolph C. Buenger of Kenosha at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They lived on Good Hope Road in Milwaukee for 10 years where her husband served as pastor of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and then moved to Kenosha in 1946 when Adolph became Associate Pastor and later Pastor of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenosha. In 1978 they moved to Port Washington.
Avis was a very kind, caring and loving woman. She quietly supported her husband’s ministry and made their home warm and welcoming to family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and was a wonderful hostess. Her husband Adolph preceded her in death July 25, 1982.
She is survived by her daughters Ardis Buenger, Lois Buenger and Aurelie “Aurie” (Don) Cosentine all of Port Washington, Wisconsin. Further survived by grandson Don Carl Cosentine of Port Washington, nephew Julian Buenger of Dallas, Texas, other relatives and friends.
Pastor Martin Wildauer officiated family services March 4, 2011 at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Port Washington. Interment in Green Ridge Cemetery, Kenosha, Wisconsin.
