Ida J. Turenne, 85, of County Road KW in the town of Port Washington, died peacefully November 11, 2015 with family by her side at her residence.

She was born November 14, 1929 in the town of Port Washington to Frank and Catherine Swatek Hansen. She lived her whole life in Port Washington. As a young woman she would take the interurban into downtown Port Washington to work at the Wisconsin Chair Company. She married Gerald “Jerry” Turenne of Thorp, Wisconsin at St. Mary’s Church in Port Washington on January 15, 1955. He preceded her in death July 2, 2010.

Ida was an excellent cook. She made casseroles soups stew and all sorts of baked goods one better than the next. One of the family favorites were her fried potatoes made in an iron skillet. Meals were often made with food she canned or preserved and she always accommodated many different family tastes. She also was a seamstress and made many items of clothing for her family. She enjoyed playing cards, solving puzzles and was always quick witted just like her mother. She was a kind soul who helped anyone she could and could do anything she put her mind to. Above all, family was her life. Spending as much time with her children and their families were the times she cherished most.

She is survived by her 6 children; Peggy (Rod) Reblin of Cedar Grove, Gail (Mark) Oppermann of Campbellsport, Pam (Dennis) Schommer of Port Washington, Linda (Fred) Witte of Fredonia, Jerry (Kay) Turenne of Saukville and John (Casey) Turenne of Port Washington. Further survived by 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, sister Marie (the late Carl) Dana of Plymouth, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry, daughter Wendy and siblings Catherine Hansen, Elrita Mielke, Frank Hansen, Leo Hansen and Lester Hansen.

The Rev. James Ernster will officiate memorial services 6 pm Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the Poole Funeral Home, 203 N. Wisconsin Street, Port Washington. Visitation from 4pm to 6pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the visiting nurses and St. Mary’s Church for their loving care and support.
