DeVerne R. Smith, 74, of Port Washington, Wisconsin died May 17, 2019 at Aurora Medical Center Washington County in Hartford, Wisconsin.

He was born January 8, 1945 to Robert J. and Dorothe M. Field Smith at the Regional Hospital at Fort Monmouth in Oceanport, New Jersey.  He grew up in West Bend, Wisconsin and attended local schools. He met Diane Schwengel, a waitress at the former 57 Drive-In while he was a dishwasher there. They married September 11, 1965 in Port Washington, Wisconsin. Together they started a family, living many years on Theis Lane in Port Washington. Diane preceded him in death December 30, 2017.

DeVerne worked in the factory at Trak International in Port Washington for many years. After his retirement he had other part time jobs in the area. He loved nature and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his daughter Mindi Sharbuno, grandchildren Kristi Pinter, Kyle Sharbuno, Kyler Smith, Joshua Smith and Austin Smith and great-grandchildren Karlie, Brady, Abigail, Maverick, Avery and Kaylynn.  Further survived by brother Lee (Rita) Smith, sister Tammarra Flouro, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Diane, son Kory Smith and his parents.

A celebration of DeVerne’s life will take place at 3pm Monday, June 3, 2019 at Open Door Bible Church, 3420 County LL, Port Washington, WI. Pastor Jim Engelman will officiate. Family will receive friends from 1-3pm Monday AT CHURCH prior to services.
