Ann Schuknecht, 96, of E Prospect Street, Port Washington, died Monday, March 24, 2014 at Harbor Club in Port Washington where she had resided the past three years.
She was born March 14, 1918 in Port Washington to John and Anastasia Kaskaitis Kartanas. She worked at the Wisconsin Chair Factory in Port Washington. On September 16, 1939, she married Howard Schuknecht at St. Ambrose Church in Port Washington. They made their home on Prospect Street and raised a family.
Ann worked as a nurse’s aide at Heritage Nursing Home in Port Washington for about 15 years, retiring in the late 1970’s. Family was her first priority and she enjoyed knitting and tending to her flower gardens. She was a member of the St. Mary Parish Christian Women, Lady Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Vincent DePaul Society, volunteering with her husband providing community outreach. Her husband Howard preceded her in death June 7, 1997.
She is survived by her sons James Schuknecht, Robert (Mary) Schuknecht and Rick (Dawn) Schuknecht, all of Port Washington. Proud grandmother of Vicki Smith, Jon (Sarah) Schuknecht and Carmen Schuknecht, great-grandmother of Nathaniel Smith, Caitlyn Schuknecht and Zoey Schuknecht. Further survived by sister Mary (the late Joe) Federspiel of Port Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded by her husband, daughter Jane and a brother John Kartanas.
The Reverend Thomas Lijewski will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial 5 pm Thursday, March 27, 2014 at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, 1802 N Wisconsin Street, Port Washington. Interment parish cemetery. Visitation 3 – 5 pm Thursday at Church with a 3 pm Rosary. Memorials to Port Catholic School or St. Vincent DePaul Society appreciated.
