Lucille C. Schmit, 92, of Harbor Village and formerly of N Montgomery Street, Port Washington died October 25, 2011 at Aurora Medical Center, Grafton.

She was born April 19, 1919 in Port Washington to Nicholas and Anna Schinker Jacque.  In her youth she worked at the Gilson Foundry.  She married Elmer P. Schmit of Port Washington on February 23, 1943 at St. Mary’s Church.  He ran JL Schmit Buick Pontiac Cadillac dealership of “The Columbia Garage” on N Wisconsin Street while she raised her family.  He preceded her in death February 28, 2011.

Lucille was a member of the former Daughters of Isabella, St. Mary’s Christian Women and a past president of the Port Washington Women’s Club.  She enjoyed gardening, baking and golf.  She also liked to sew and was the seamstress to family and many friends.  She kept fit by swimming at the pool at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, keeping track of her laps until her late 80’s.

She is survived by her children Peter (Lynn) Schmit of Champaign, Illinois, Jacquelyn (the late Joseph) Ventura of Gaitherburg, Maryland, Stephen (Barbara) Schmit of Menomonee Falls, Maggie Schmit of Port Washington, Thomas (Cindie) Schmit of Appleton and Barbie (Mark W. Wildhagen) Schmit of Port Washington.  Further survived by 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.  Preceded in death by her husband Elmer, brother Nic Jacque and sisters Marie Schanen and Pauline Schils.

Fr. Thomas Lijewski will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial 6 pm Friday, October 28, 2011 at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, 1802 N Wisconsin Street, Port Washington.  Interment Parish Cemetery.  Visitation 4 – 6 pm Friday AT CHURCH.  Memorials to the Wilmer Eye Institute Development Office, 600 N Wolfe Street, Baltimore, MD 21287-9015 or www.hopkinsmedicine.org/wilmer
