Hubbard, Betty Jane

Betty Jane Hubbard, 79, formerly of Menominee, MI, of Port Washington, WI died Saturday, November 11, 2006 at Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg, WI after a lengthy struggle with Supranuclear Palsy, a rare brain disorder.

She was born on June 29, 1927 in Milwaukee, WI to John and Lydia Greening Chervenka.  As a young girl her family moved to the Upper Penninsula where she graduated  from Menominee High School in 1945.  On January 20, 1947 she married Gerald “Jerry” Hubbard of Stephenson, Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  After living there a few years, they moved to Port Washington for Jerry’s job with the Port Washington Electric Power Plant in 1950.

Betty Jane had worked for the former St. Alphonsus Hospital in Port Washington as a respiratory therapist, retiring in 1986.  She was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Harborview Homemakers and the Port Washington Senior Center.  She enjoyed family and friends, but her passion was playing Bridge.  Until her illness, she and her friends of over 40 years continued to get together and play cards.  She will also be remembered for her love of flowers.

She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Gerald “Jerry” Hubbard of Port Washington, two daughters Jane (Richard) Fellenz of Port Washington and Ann (Carlos) Aranda of Lima, Peru; granddaughters Rachel (Eric) Skell and Sarah and Rebecca Fellenz, great-granddaughters Lauren and Madison Skell, her sister Marion Horvath of Stephenson, MI, her brother Jack (Nancy) Chervenka of Neenah, WI, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 6PM Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Poole Funeral Home.  The Reverend Arthur Senn will be the officiant.  Interment will take place at Union Cemetery in Port Washington.  Visitation will be from 2-6PM Thursday at the funeral home.
