Effio, Diego R.

Diego R. Effio, Age 35, of Port Washington, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI.

He was born July 14, 1987 in Peru to Amelia Cardenas and Sergio Effio.  In 2001 he came to Wisconsin with his mother and sister.  He graduated from Homestead High School in Mequon, WI.    He worked at Egelhoff Lawn Mower Service in Thiensville, WI helping around the shop and store.

Diego was a sweet young man who loved his mother and family very much.  He was organized, polite and helpful.  He participated in the Special Olympics since 2005 in basketball, track and field, baseball, and volleyball, where he traveled and made many friends.  He liked to exercise and would run on the many trails around Port Washington.  

He is survived by his mother Amelia McCann, his father Sergio Effio, a sister Andrea Effio and niece Alanis Dejesus.  He is further survived by other relatives and many friends.  His step-father Stephen McCann preceded him in death.

Funeral Services will be held 6:30PM Wednesday, July 5th, 2023 at Poole Funeral Home, 203 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington, WI.  The Reverend Patrick Wendt will officiate.  Visitation from 4:30-6:30PM at the funeral home prior to the service.

Memorials to Special Olympics appreciated.
