Mary Alice Draeger, 90, formerly of West Allis, Wisconsin died Sunday July 24, 2011 at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Washington.
She was born June 22, 1921 in Madison, Wisconsin to Leonard and Alice Luther Yelg. She grew up in Watertown, Wisconsin and graduated from the former Layton School of Arts in Milwaukee. She raised a family and was a secretary for the Nephrology Department at Milwaukee County Hospital for 18 years. She later worked in the Bakery at Cub Foods and Pick ‘n Save Grocery Stores. She lived in West Allis for many years and in 2009 moved to Port Washington to be with her daughter.
Mary Alice was a talented jewelry maker. She produced jewelry involving silversmithing for over 25 years and usually gave her items as gifts to family and friends. She stayed current on her craft by attending classes at Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee. She was a member of the Wisconsin Geological Society and Archealogical Rescue for many years.
She is survived by her children Robert (Susan) Draeger, Jr. of Dousman and Donna (Bill) Marzinske of Port Washington. Further survived by grandchildren Amy (Dan) Mahn, Anna Draeger, Andrea (Andrew) McHenry, BJ (Samantha) Draeger and Alyssa Draeger; great grandchildren Ben, Gabriella, Marcus, Jacob, Joseph, Liam, Eli and Mitchell; sister Marjorie Yelg of Cudahy, other relatives and friends.
Pastor Martin Wildauer will officiate memorial services 1 pm Saturday, July 30, 2011 at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, 1525 N Grant Street, Port Washington. Interment Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield. Family will receive friends from Noon – 1 pm Saturday at Church. Memorials to St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church appreciated.
