Muriel J. DeSmith, age 86, of Cedar Grove, WI died peacefully Thursday, February 25, 2016 at her son’s home in Port Washington.

She was born in the town of Holland, WI; November 12, 1929; daughter of Lester and Ruby Simmelink Lukens.

When she was young, Muriel waitressed for United Airlines in their Million Mile Club at O’Hare Airport in Chicago for a few years. Muriel had waitressed at the former Smith Bros. Restaurant and the Port Hotel Restaurant in Port Washington. During her life, she lived in Grafton, Belgium and most recently in Cedar Grove.

Faith was very important to her. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove and volunteered at Campus Life Food Pantry in the town of Wilson. She took great pride in her home and enjoyed baking.

Muriel is survived by her son Jeff “Stubber” (Lisa) DeSmith of Port Washington; her brothers Larry (Jean) and LaMont (Mary Jane “Janie”) Lukens, both of Cedar Grove; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her infant son Dean, her sister Delores and her husband Mark Bruce and her former spouse Elmo DeSmith.

Funeral services 11AM Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at First Reformed Church, 237 S. Main St., Cedar Grove. Pastor Al Schut of First Reformed Church and Pastor Jon Bremeier of Christ the King Lutheran Church of Port Washington will preside. Visitation 10-11AM Tuesday AT CHURCH prior to the service. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery, Cedar Grove.
