Kathatrina Basiks, 88, formerly of Port Washington died Saturday, June 23, 2007 in Cham, Germany.
She was born June 2, 1919 to Paul and Maria Hastreiter Scheurer in Cham, Germany. In 1951 she immigrated to the United States and worked for the late US Representative Henry Reuss in Washington, DC. She married Michael Basiks of Port Washington in 1957 and they moved to Port Washington where she worked at the former St. Alphonsus Hospital in the dietary department. Katie was quite a cook and very industrious, always keeping busy. Her husband preceded her in death in 1974. Kate retired in the late 1980’s and moved back to Cham, Germany to be closer to her nieces. She enjoyed seiming and traveling throughout Europe and returning to the United States once in a while.
She is survived by nieces Heiderchristl Schiedermeier, Ulricke Schimmack and Brigitt Gruber and a nephew Franz Scheurer, Jr. Further survived by great nieces Marion, Karen, Doris and Annegret and long time family friend Harold Johnson of Port Washington.
Kate was cremated and her remains buried by her husband at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Washington. Rev. James Ernster led services 1 pm Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the cemetery.
