Wells, Edith

Edith V. Wells, 84, formerly of Lorraine Drive, Fredonia died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend, Wisconsin.

Edith was born July 22, 1919 in Baltimore, Maryland to Geroge B. and Lily C. Steen Jersin and grew up in Baltimore.  She attended the University of Miami in Ohio and received a degree in English Literature from Ohio State University.  On February 27, 1946 she married Robert W. Wells from Orwell, Ohio in Long Beach California.  While married the coupled lived all over the country and came to Wauwatosa when Robert started writing for the Milwaukee Journal.  Edith became a Speech Clinician for Waukesha county for 12 years and in 1989 they moved to Waubeka.  Robert proceded her in death on January 3, 1995.  In 1999 she moved to Cedar Lake Campus.  Edith enjoyed reading and painting and  also took great pride in her Norwegian heritage.  A strong believer in helping others, she supported many charities.

She is survived by her children John (Laurie) Wells of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Nancy (Jeffrey) Byers of Waubeka and Robert (Annie) Wells of Colgate, WI.  Edith was a proud grandma of nine; Christopher, Michael (Wendy) and Scott Byers, Jenna, Chip, Robin, Jack, Sam and Joe Wells.  She is further survived by other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by her brother Harold Jersin, a granddaughter, Amy and a step-son Dick Wells.

A Service of Remembrance will be held 7 PM Monday, September 22, 2003 at the funeral home with the family and Rev. David Jeger of St. Paul’s Community Church memorializing.  Interment at Waubeka Union Cemetery.  Visitation 4 – 7 PM Monday at the funeral home.
