Kathleen “Kathy” Sauer, 57, of Heather Lane, Fredonia died March 21, 2004 at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital – Ozaukee Campus in Mequon.

Born June 30, 1946 to Nicholas and Lavern Mertzig Steffen in  Port Washington, she was raised in Fredonia.  St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Fredonia was the setting for her June 11, 1966 wedding to Robert A. Sauer of Port Washington.  She was a clerk for the former Baumann’s Meats in Fredonia for over 15 years.  She had also worked for Kohl’s Department Store in Grafton and at the Kohl’s Distribution Center in Brown Deer.  Most recently she worked for National EMS Billing in Cedarburg until July of last year.

Kathy loved spending time with her family in Door County and traveling.  She especially liked lighthouses.  She was a loving woman who taught everyone the importance of family and lived each day to its fullest.  Her battle with cancer has ended, but her spirit will live on in all those who loved her.  She left the world a better place for all those she touched.

She is survived by her husband Robert of Fredonia, daughter Lora (Tim) Schroeder and son Jeffrey (Lynn) Sauer both of Belgium.  She was a proud grandmother of Allison, Abigail and Anna Sauer and Ben and Rose Schroeder.  Further survived by brothers Ronald Steffen of Waukesha, WI, Donald (Joyce Steffen of the town of Port Washington and Nick Steffen of Crystal Lake, IL, sisters Jackie (Jim) Lippe of Random Lake and Jane (Eugene) Preder of North Fond du Lac, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass will be  7:30 pm Thursday at Holy Rosary Parish, Holy Cross Chapel with Fr. James Ernster celebrating.  Interment St. Rose Of Lima Cemetery, Fredonia.  Visitation from 4 – 6:45 pm Thursday at the funeral home with a 4 pm rosary service.  Memorials to American Cancer Society appreciated.
