Koenen, Bart

Bart H. Koenen, 96, formerly of N. Holden Street in Port Washington died Thursday, February 26, 2004 at Countryview Group Home in Germantown, Wisconsin.

He was born October 17, 1907 to Joseph and Wilhelmina “Minnie” Bartol Koenen in Port Washington, Wisconsin.  He attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Port Washington High School.  He earned a business degree from Marquette University and worked at the former Premo Brewery in Port Washington.  During World War Two he worked for Harnischfeger Homes in Milwaukee and Port Washington.  He then became a comptroller for Allen Edmunds Shoes in Belgium, retiring after over 25 years of service in 1973.

On April 10, 1937 he married Iva A. Blong of Port Washington at St. Mary’s Church in Port Washington.  A family man, he enjoyed life in Port Washington and it’s beach.  He raised pears, apples and raspberries and his wife canned the harvests.  Together they had a wonderful garden at the Holden Street home.  They also enjoyed baking bread together.  Iva preceded him in death March  5, 1991.  Bart was a rather quiet man who enjoyed reading and he was an avid Packer fan.  He moved to the Harbor Club in Port Washington about four years ago.

He is survived by his children Michael (Roselind) Koenen of New York, NY, Mary Jo Koenen of Franklin, WI and Kris (Joe Beyler) Koenen of Madison, WI.  He was a proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  His wife Iva and a brother, Frank Koenen precede him in death.

The Rev. Allan Sommer will officiate funeral services 11 AM Monday, March 1, 2004 at the funeral home.  Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Washington.  Visitation after 9:30 AM Monday.  Memorials to the American Cancer Society or hospice of choice appreciated
