Keith Knop, 65, of W Foster Street, Port Washington died Monday, September 21, 2015 in Summit, Wisconsin from injuries sustained in a car accident.

He was born January 7, 1950 in Port Washington to Edward and Marie Picciurro Knop. Born and raised in Port Washington he graduated from Port Washington High School and resided in the house he grew up in. On November 12, 2001 he married his high school sweetheart Risë Andersen in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

Keith began working for the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office in 1977 as a jailer. He advanced the ranks quickly making Detective in 1982. He was the head negotiator for the Special Response Team, member of the Ozaukee County S.W.A.T. Team and a member of the Association of S.W.A.T. Personnel. He was the Founder and Past President of the Narcotics Officers of Wisconsin. He retired in 2006.

Although retired, he had a desire to preserve the Sheriff’s Office history. He gathered old photographs and articles, spending many hours at the WJ Niederkorn library and archived them as the Sheriff’s Office Historian. He recently restored his dream car, a 1963 Studebaker Avanti, and entered it in car shows.

He was known as a cook, fisherman and gardener. Keith became an amateur vinter after retirement garnering 2nd and 3rd place awards at the Wisconsin State Fair for his cherry and beet varieties. He also started a tree cutting business with his best friend and was known for his ability to drop a tree on target. Keith was always ready with a smile and a story and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife Risë Andersen of Port Washington, his sister Kathie (Sheldon) Shaver of Newburg and his sister-in-law Patricia Knop of Port Washington. Further survived by his nieces and nephews Danielle (Kevin) Weins, Kyle (Sara) Knop, Carmen Shaver and Marshall (Bridget) Shaver, great nieces and nephews Mark and Katie Weins, Luke and Natalie Knop, Elaina, Sicilia and Owen Shaver and Logan Frank, his children Kourtney, Adam and Andrew Knop, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald “Ron” Knop.

Memorial Services will be held 7 PM Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Poole Funeral Home, 203 N Wisconsin Street, Port Washington. Visitation from 4 pm to 7 pm Friday, October 9, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorials to the Ozaukee County K9 Unit (1201 S. Spring St, Port Washington, WI 53074) or the WJ Niederkorn Library (316 W Grand Avenue, Port Washington, WI 53074) are appreciated.
