HenkleMarjorieMarge Henkle, age 86, of North Milwaukee Street, Port Washington died Monday, November 11, 2013 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on October 17, 1927, daughter of Joseph and Nellie (Ruebsam) Quinn in Riverside, Iowa.  After high school, Marge attended Clarke College in Dubuque and became a licensed medical technologist.  She also attended the University of Iowa, later working at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

On December 28, 1951, Marge married Robert F. Henkle of Des Moines, IA in Iowa City.  After a few years based in various states with her husband’s medical training and military service, the Henkle’s settled in Port Washington.  Marge helped her husband in his medical practice for a few years.

A woman of strong faith, Marge was very active within her church.  She served on the parish council, a parish trustee, Eucharistic minister and Christian Women member for many years.  She regularly took theology classes at Cardinal Stritch University.

She had been a member of the WJ Niederkorn Library board for over 40 years, a voracious reader; consuming two books a day at times.  She loved her flowers, spending time in her garden.  She volunteered with the Port Washington Food Pantry and Ozaukee County Meals on Wheels.  Marge was a Hawthorne Honey with her golf friends, played Bridge, Gin and Sheepshead cards with local ladies and her card clubs.  She played the piano, sharing music with family and friends.  The Henkle home was filled with music and song during many family and holiday gatherings.

She is survived by her husband Bob, her six children Kathryn “Kathy” (Bill) Mulligan of Shererville, IN, Joseph “Joe” Henkle of Springfield, IL, Robert “Bob” Henkle, Jr. of Port Washington, William “Bill” (Mary) Henkle of Port Washington, Patricia “Patti” (Tony) Depies of Sturgeon Bay and Daniel “Dan” (Steve Kawa) Henkle of San Francisco; 18 grandchildren Caitlin and Quinn Mulligan, Ben, Sarah, Laura, Bobby, Talia, Tricia, Amanda, Lauren, Annie, Joey and Carolyn Henkle, Patrick, Alex and Monica Depies and Katherine and Michael Henkle-Kawa; her sister Mary Jane (the late Patrick) Ryan of Kettering, OH; two sisters-in-law Marylin (the late Paul) Gorham of Indianola, IA and Jane (the late Tom) Crane of Springfield, VA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by her infant sister Rose Marie and daughter-in-law Gloria Henkle.

Her memorial funeral mass will be celebrated at 1PM Saturday, November 16, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 430 N. Johnson Street, Port Washington.  Reverend Thomas Lijewski will be the celebrant.  Family will receive friends 10AM-12:45PM Saturday AT CHURCH.  Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Washington.  Memorials to WJ Niederkorn Library, 316 W Grand Ave., Port Washington, WI 53074; St. Mary Parish or Horizon Hospice 11400 W Lake Park Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53224 are appreciated.
