Carl J. Federspiel, age 92, of Lakeview Avenue, Port Washington, WI passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, WI.

He was born on October 6, 1926 in Port Washington, WI; son of John and Oliva Ackermann Federspiel. Carl attended St. Mary’s parochial school. He helped at his family hardware store on Franklin Street – Huettmann/Federspiel Hardware, started by his father and his uncle. From 1944 to 1946, Carl was a Private serving in the United States Army during World War II in the 25th Division, 3rd Regiment. Upon his return home, Carl finished high school and graduated with the class of 1947.

On August 23, 1952, Carl married Loretta Feider of Port Washington at St. Mary’s Church in Port Washington. For many years they raised their family on North Wisconsin Street, moving to Lakeview Avenue in 2004.

In 1953, Carl became a partner in the hardware store with his brother George and his sister Margaret as secretary. They continued to operate it until 1989.

Carl was a long standing member of the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82. He participated in the Honor Flight in 2009 and was inducted to the Port Washington High School Wall of Honor in 2018. He had been an active volunteer with the Port Washington Recreation Department and a City of Port Washington alderman in the 1970’s. He enjoyed time spent at the Port Washington Senior Center and their Green Felt Club. He enjoyed woodworking, photography and gardening. He was a member of the Port Washington Garden Club and recognized for his garden in the past. Carl had been a member of the Catholic Knights for over 75 years; 49 years as a representative of Branch 31.

He is survived by his wife Loretta, his children Patrice (Keanu Bruner) Federspiel of Honolulu, Mary Beth (Tom Brunka) Federspiel of Port Washington, Robert (Tammy) Federspiel of Random Lake, Paul Federspiel of West Bend and David (Michelle) Federspiel of Waldo; 10 grandchildren Jason (Kerry) Mueller, Mandy (Justin) Pupp, John, Christopher, Isaac (Stevie Steiro), Anastassia, Samantha, Melinda, Emily and Olivia Federspiel; 7 great-grandchildren Victoria, Lincoln, Trystin, Jackson, Riley, Taylor and King. He is further survived by sister-in-law Mary Federspiel of Port Washington and brothers-in-law Edward (Audrey) Feider of Sheboygan, Clarence (the late Nina) Feider of Lakeland, FL and LeRoy (the late Lilliana) Feider of Castle Rock, CO, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Carl is preceded in death by his son Richard, his sisters Rita and Margaret Federspiel and his brothers George and his wife Angie, Wilfred (Brother Conrad CP), Joseph and Norbert and his wife Hiltrude.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 6PM Thursday, February 28, 2019 at St. John XXIII Parish-St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin Street, Port Washington, WI. Reverend Patrick Wendt will be the celebrant. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Washington. Visitation will take place from 4-5:45PM Thursday prior to Mass AT CHURCH. Military honors to follow mass at church.
