Leona A. Conrad, 98, of W. Foster Street in Port Washington, Wisconsin died at her residence April 19, 2010.

She was born February 7, 1912 in the Town of Belgium to John “J.B.” and Katherine Freiman Majerus.  She gr ew up on Dairy Farm on Jay Road in Town of Belgium and graduated in 1931 from Wisconsin Memorial Academy in Cedar Grove by taking the Interurban every morning.  After high School she worked in Chicago doing home care and graduated from Cosmetology School, but the Great Depression brought her back to Belgium.

Leona married Howard J. Conrad of Port Washington on May 2, 1942 at St. Mary’s Church in Port Washington.  She raised her family and provided child care for many Port Washington families.  Many of the children she watched would come by to visit when they came back to Port, most recently as last week.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and Christian Women.  Her husband Howard preceded her in death September 25, 1984.

She is survived by her children Howard (Susan) Conrad of Mill Valley, California and Nancy (Dennis) Hoffman of the Town of Port Washington.  Further survived by grandchildren Jeff (Amanda) Hoffman of Waukesha, Eric (Rebecca) Hoffman and Christopher Hoffman both of Port Washington, five week old great grandson Gavin James Hoffmann, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Precded by her husband, sister Sylvia Dickmann, infant brother Wilfred, brother Edwin Majerus and niece Karen Dickmann.

Rev. Patrick Wendt will celebrate a Memorial Mass at Noon on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 430 N Johnson Street, Port Washington.  Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Washington.    Visitation 10 am to Noon Saturday at church with a 10 am Rosary.
