Catherine Bares, 88, of N Harrison Street Port Washington died Monday, July 10, 2006 at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Washington.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan to George and Anastasia Scheftgen Plein on July 30, 1917.  Both her parents died in the flu epidemic in the early 1920’s and she moved to Harrison Street in Port  Washington to be raised by her grandmother, Catherine Scheftgen.  She married Alvin M. Bares of Port Washington, Wisconsin at St. Mary’s Church on April 25, 1942.

Catherine started working at the former JE Gilson Foundry in Port Washington right after she graduated high school in 1934.  She was a personal secretary for George Gilson until the time of the foundry’s fire in 1960.  She then began working as a bookkeeper and office manager at the former Heatwole Foundry in Knellsville, Town of Port Washington from 1961 until they closed in 1991.  She was a very organized and meticulous perfectionist.  She was was soft spoken and a nice lady.

She is survived by her husband Alvin, sister-in-law Adeline Deppisch of Port Washington and brother-in-law Gerald Bares of Black River Falls, Wisconsin.  Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Rev. Allan Sommer will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Thursday, July 13, 2006 at St. Mary’s Church, 430 Johnson Street, Port Washington.  Interment Parish Cemetery.  A 9:45 rosary will be prayed at church followed by visitation from 10 – 11 AM Thursday.   Memorials appreciated.
