In 1939 their son Erin H.
received his license. It was reported in local papers that he was the
youngest to receive a license in the state at that time. It was also
in 1939 that W.D. and Mayme start construction on a new
funeral home at 203 N Wisconsin Street, the same time as St. Alphonsus
Hospital construction began. In 1941 The Poole Funeral Home had their first
open house which was considered a success. Erin continued with his father
to operated the funeral home and the now Railway Express Agency (formerly
Wells Fargo). In 1958 W.D. received recognition for 50 years of licensure
and practice from the state. Erin married Marjorie Betz in 1945 and she received her license in 1948.
The couple helped at the funeral home and in 1959, a year after W.D.'s death
at the age of 76, they took over operations. Like W.D. and Mayme
before them they raised their family above the funeral home. Actively
supporting their community through several organizations. The Railway Express Agency folded in 1971 with the decrease in rail usage in
the country. Prior to that Erin started Lakeside Movers, which is still in
existence today. Erin also handled all transportation for the Port
Washington School District. In 1973 Ellen Poole received her license and
worked with her parents at the funeral home for a while. The 1980's were filled with milestones for the funeral home. In October of 1981 Erin was appointed to a term on the State Licensing board, Mayme received her 50 year recognition in 1983, October 1988 marked the 75th anniversary of the funeral home and in 1989 Erin was recognized for 50 years of funeral service by the state. In 1993 Erin died at the age of 76. In 1998 Marge received her 50 year recognition and still helps out today.
